Vol. 136 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Food Hygiene Regulations.

asked the Minister for Health if he is aware of the shortage of health inspectors to supervise the carrying out of the provisions of the food hygiene regulations; and, if so, if he will state when he is going to authorise the commencement of a new course of training for inspectors.

I am not aware that the operation of the food hygiene regulations is, in general, being impeded by a shortage of health inspectors. The question of the future training and qualifications of health inspectors has been under investigation for some time, and the introduction of a course of training much more extensive than that hitherto available to persons seeking appointments to health inspector posts is now under consideration. A decision will be made in the very near future.
