I move:—
That, in view of the steep and continuing unemployment, as indicated by the fact that the number of registered unemployed has risen from 73,677 in January, 1952, to 86,640 in January, 1953, the Dáil calls upon the Government to take immediate steps to deal with this serious and deteriorating situation by measures calculated to increase the overall volume of industrial, agricultural and commercial employment and by the expansion of the Public Works programme.
May I ask the Taoiseach whether the Government propose to accept this motion? They accepted one in similar terms last year, but, of course, did nothing about it. Will the Taoiseach now consider accepting this motion and do something about it?
