Vol. 136 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Medical Examination of I.R.A. Claimants.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state whether a British army medical officer is employed by his Department for interviewing and examining claimants for I.R.A. pensions in the Six Counties; further, if he is aware that this man was medical officer in the prison ship Argentain 1922 in which I.R.A. men were grossly illtreated; and, if so, if he will make a statement in the matter.

No applicant for a disability pension or a special allowance residing in the Six Counties has, as far as I am aware, been examined by a British army medical officer.

The Minister therefore means to say that the person whose name I gave in the question, and which would not be published, is not employed on such work?

There is no such name among the people who carry out the examinations.

I should like the Minister to appreciate that this information was published in a Six County newspaper in the report of an old I.R.A. association meeting.

It is entirely false, if it was.
