Vol. 136 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Egg Prices.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state what price per great hundred will be payable foreggs exported to Great Britain during the remainder of 1953.

Mr. Walsh

I am not at present in a position to give the information sought by the Deputy but I hope to be able to make an announcement regarding egg prices shortly.

The Minister will no doubt recall having expressed the strongest censure of me for not providing this information before the 1st December. In view of the fact that this is the 26th February when most of the day-old chicks have been hatched or are in the process of coming from the hatchery, I am sure my colleague, Deputy Mrs. Rice, who also rebuked me sternly then, will join now in urging on the Minister for Agriculture that, in view of the new prices for fowl to which he has just referred, it is very necessary that the poultry industry should have some idea of the price payable for eggs sent to Britain under the hatchery programme?
