I am aware that in some cases where the weights of lorries exceed the permitted weights under the road merchandise licences the vehicle plates have been withdrawn. Representations for increases in the permitted unladen lorry weights have been made to me from numerous sources, including the Irish Licensed Haulage Contractors' Association, and I have these representations under consideration at present.
Could the Minister give an idea as to when he would come to a decision with regard to these lorries?
One of the questions that arises for consideration is whether or not I have power to do anything without fresh legislation.
