Vol. 136 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment Exchanges Staffs.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state what measure of success has attended his efforts to establish those members of the temporary staff serving at the employment exchanges who qualified in the confined examination of 1950.

It has been decided to appoint a further 21 candidates from the confined competition in question to posts as clerical officer in employment exchanges, and the steps necessary to give effect to this decision will now be taken by the Civil Service Commissioners.

Could the Parliamentary Secretary state if 21 vacancies will be filled irrespective of whether applicants in order of merit accept permanent employment?

Of course, there will be a medical examination.

Apart from the medical examination 21 vacancies will be filled? The Parliamentary Secretary will recollect that last week he stated that some of these people would refuse to take employment unless they got it in Dublin.

21 vacancies will be filled.
