Vol. 136 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway Pump.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that a pump was being provided at Lissavruggy, Newbridge, County Galway, to serve 32 householders and that when boring operations had been going on for approximately a fortnight, and a boring of 30 feet had been made, the county medical officer of health ordered the cessation of the work; and if he is further aware that the machinery was then moved a distance of 600 yards and operations commenced at a point where it will only serve six householders, and if he will investigate the matter immediately and ascertain why this change has been made and if he will insist on the provision of the pump at the original site.

I am not aware of the circumstances referred to. This is a matter primarily for the sanitary authority.

Does the Minister disclaim all responsibility in this matter?

I have not said so.

You have implied it.

Will the Minister make an investigation into the matter raised in the question?

The Minister takes the view that when a simple question of this nature is raised in this House by a Deputy who is also a member of the local authority it would pay better dividends from that point of view if that public representative would raise it with the local authority concerned.

The Deputy concerned, Deputy Donnellan, is not a member of the local authority.

It is not long since he was.
