asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he hasreceived a request from the Lower Prices Council demanding a public inquiry into the increase in the price of butter; further, if he will state if any representatives of that association, the housewives, child welfare or other organisations representing the consumer, were consulted before the increases were sanctioned.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Increase in Price of Butter.
As regards the first part of the question, I have seen a telegram addressed to the Minister for Agriculture. The answer to the second part of the question is in the negative.
Mr. A. Byrne
Will the Minister say whether he proposes to have an inquiry following representations by the Lower Prices Council or any other organisation?
No.
Mr. A. Byrne
The Minister some time ago said he was satisfied that butter could be sold at 3/9 per lb. at a profit, while now it is being sold at 4/2 per lb. Is there any justification for that?
The Deputy is now asking a question that he has not on the Order Paper.
