Vol. 137 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Civil Service Pensions.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state (1) what would be the annual cost to the Exchequer of increasing pensions payable to retired civil servants on the same scale as the increases recommended in the recent Civil Service arbitration award and (2) whether in view of recent rises in living costs he will grant an increase in pensions to retired civil servants.

The estimated annual cost of increasing Civil Service pensions on the basis indicated in the first part of the Deputy's question is of the order of £62,000 a year.

The answer to the second part of the question is in the negative.
