Vol. 137 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cost-of-Living Index.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state the present number for (1) the cost of living; and (2) agricultural prices, taking the index for 1914 as 100.

To base July 1914=100, it is estimated that in mid-November, 1952, the cost-of-living index was 392. To base year 1914=100 it is estimated that the agricultural price index number in January, 1953, was 348.

These figures have been estimated by linking in each case the earlier series of index numbers to the current series, the link being made in the case of the cost-of-living index at mid-August, 1947, and in the case of the agricultural price index at the period September, 1938, to August, 1939.
