Vol. 137 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Number of Dwellings.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state in respect of the dwellings in the country the number and percentage of those built (a) before 1851, (b) before 1901, (c) before 1939, (d) between 1939 and 1947, and (e) from 1948 to date.

At the census of population, particulars are obtained of the number of houses (defined as structurally separate buildings with resident premises) and dwellings (a dwelling is defined as a room or set of rooms designed for the habitation of a single family). These statistics are not, however, classified by year of building, so that the particulars which the Deputy asks for are not available. As bearing generally on the subject, certain statistics of houses and dwellings have been assembled which, with the permission of An Ceann Comhairle, will be circulated in the Official Report.

Following are the particulars:—
