asked the Taoiseach if he will state the number of persons engaged in the building trade in July, 1939, 1948, 1949, 1950, 1951 and 1952 in the following classes and express each class as a percentage of the whole:— (a) carpenters, (b) bricklayers, (c) masons, (d) slaters and tilers, (e) plasterers, (f) painters, (g) plumbers and glaziers, and (h) all other occupations, including labourers.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Building Trade Statistics.
The information which the Deputy requires is not available for the building trade proper, but it is considered that the particulars of the numbers of wet-time books exchanged under the Insurance (Intermittent Unemployment) Act, 1942, provide relevant information as to numbers of persons in building occupations. I propose, with the permission of An Ceann Comhairle, to circulate in the Official Report a statement giving such particulars for the years 1947-48 to 1951-52, inclusive. Corresponding information for the year 1939 is not available.
Following is the statement:—

*In the years 1949-50 to 1951-52 the numbers of Young Persons (between 16 and 21 years of age) in the categories of skilled workers are included in the specific occupations. In the years 1947-48 and 1948-49 Young Persons are excluded from these categories and included under the heading "Young Persons" since the relevant information is not available.
asked the Taoiseach if he will state for each of the years 1935, 1936, 1937 and 1938, 1947, 1948, 1949, 1950, 1951 and 1952 the value of the output of the building industry and the division by approximate percentages between the following groupings: (a) new housing, (b) factories and warehouses, (c) shops, offices, hotels, etc., (d) other new building works, (e) civil engineering works and maintenance, and (f) all other maintenance.
I propose, with the permision of An Ceann Comhairle, to circulate in the Official Report a statement giving the particulars required by the Deputy in respect of the industry of building and construction for the years 1936, 1937, 1938, 1947, 1948, 1949, 1950. A limited census of production was taken in 1935 which did not cover this industry. The information requested is not yet available for the years 1951 and 1952.
Following is the statement:—
