Vol. 137 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Offaly Bog Road Grant.

asked the Minister for Finance if, further to his reply to a question on 12th February, 1953, regarding the repair of a bog road in Bogtown and Ballyshear, Cloneygowan, County Offaly, which is now in progress, he will consider making a further grant available to deepen the drains on each side of the new road in order to save the road from damage in the event of flooding and to ensure that the job now being carried out will have a lasting effect.

I would point out to the Deputy that the effective drainage of a bog road is a technical detail within the province of the engineer in charge of the repair work. No report has been received from the engineer in this case that the amount of the grant already sanctioned is insufficient for the satisfactory repair of the road. I am not satisfied, therefore, that any further action on my part is called for at this stage.
