Vol. 137 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Differential Rents Allowances.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will direct local authorities not to include children's allowances in the calculation of the household weekly income for the purpose of fixing the weekly rent where differential rents are in operation.

I would refer the Deputy to the reply which I gave to his question on this subject on the 5th February last. I prefer to leave housing authorities free to allow for children and other dependents in whatever way they consider most appropriate to their renting scheme. In the case of Donegal the abatement for children is in excess of the benefit that would accrue from the exclusion of children's allowances.
