Vol. 137 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Irish Insurance Association.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state (a) the names of the Irish companies that are members of the Irish Insurance Association, and that hold a licence to carry on the business of mechanically propelled vehicles insurance and (b) the names of foreign insurance companies and syndicates that hold a licence to carry on mechanically propelled vehicle insurance.

The names of the Irish companies which are licensed to transact motor insurance business are included in page 7 of the Report on Assurance Companies for the year 1951 which was presented to both Houses of the Oireachtas.

The names of the foreign insurance companies licensed to transact motor insurance business in Ireland are included in pages 8, 9, 10 and 11 of that report; and all the underwritingsyndicates and motor syndicates mentioned on page 29 of the report are also licensed to transact motor insurance business in Ireland.

I do not think it would be appropriate that I should state in respect of the Irish companies which of them are members of the Irish Insurance Association. In this connection I would refer the Deputy to the reply given to a question in Dáil Éireann on 4th March.
