Vol. 137 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Survey of Nenagh River.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state whether the survey of the Nenagh river has been completed; and, if so, when it is proposed to start the necessary work on the river.

The survey of the Nenagh River catchment has been completed and the preparation of a scheme under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945, is well advanced. Pending compliance with the statutory provisions as regards exhibition and confirmation of the scheme, it is not possible to say when works can be commenced.

Could the Parliamentary Secretary give even an approximate date this year?

There is money provided in the Estimate but that does not mean it will be undertaken this year.

I know that. That is the reason I am asking the question.

If not this year, it will probably be next year.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary be in a position to tell me when the survey was completed?

The survey was completed about a year and a half ago. The Deputy must realise there is a good deal to be done after the survey.

I understand that. That is the reason I did not ask the question before now.
