Vol. 137 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Reclamation Work (County Mayo).

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state (1) the date on which the land project office commenced work in the Claremorris, County Mayo, area and (2) the number of applications made to the office for reclamation work under the scheme.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state (1) the total acreage of land in respect of which applications for reclamation were received in the land project offices in Claremorris, County Mayo; (2) the total acreage reclaimed in the area up to 31st December, 1952, and (3) the total cost of such reclamation.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 51 and 52 together.

The Claremorris office opened a short time before the scheme was extended to County Mayo on the 15th August, 1949.

As to the statistics asked for, I would refer the Deputy to the statistics by county furnished for the information of members of the Oireachtas on 30th January, 1953. I expect that the next return will be available about the end of April. As I have already indicated in reply to a previous question, it is not the practice to compile statistics for parts of counties.
