Vol. 138 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Turf Production.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if it is the intention of Bord na Móna to undertake production of turf during the present season in Inchorourke and Longford Pass bogs, County Tipperary.

It is not the intention of Bord na Móna to undertake the production of turf during the present season on the bogs mentioned.

I am informed, however, by Bord na Móna that they hope to be able to absorb in their permanent scheme at Littleton all local labour from Inchorourke and Longford Pass districts which would have been employed if production were being undertaken in these districts.

Littleton bog is nine miles further on and it would be very hard for the people concerned to cover nine miles both ways in order to try and earn a living by cutting turf.
