Vol. 138 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Charge on Flour Bags.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether the millers are still permitted by him to make a penal charge of 5/- each on all flour bags; and, if so, on what date he intends to revoke the relevant Order.

The emergency powers Order under which this charge was first imposed was revoked in February, 1948. Because of supply and other difficulties, it was decided, as an administrative matter, in April, 1951, with the approval of the then Minister for Agriculture, to reintroduce the charge of 5/- per bag on issue, which sum is repayable on the return of the bag in good condition.

The level of the charge is kept under constant review, but at the moment I cannot say if and when a change will be made.
