asked the Taoiseach if he will state the amount of the national income for the years 1944 to 1952 inclusive.

I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate in the Official Report a statement giving the estimates for the years 1944-51, inclusive. The estimate for the year 1952 is not yet available.

Note: The figures for 1944-46 have not been adjusted, by making an estimate of the "provision for stock appreciation" and certain other recomputations, to make them comparable with the recent series covering the years 1947-51. The differences incontent of the two sets of figures are set out on pp. 42-43 of the Irish Statistical Survey, 1950-51 (Pr. 1445). The data needed for the recalculations for these years are relatively incomplete but suggest that the inclusion of the relevant figures for “provision for stock appreciation” would not substantially alter the totals given above for the years 1944-46, which are those published in Tables of National Income and Expenditure, 1938 and 1944-50 (Pr. 350).
