Vol. 138 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Agricultural Consultative Council.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will consider the desirability of setting up a general consultative council representative of all branches of the agricultural industry to consider and advise him from time to time as to ways and means by which the productivity and efficiency of the industry can be increased.

The Agricultural Production Consultative Council, constituted in 1939 by an Order made pursuant to Section 11 of the Agriculture Act, 1931, is still in existence. This council has not met for some years, but I have under consideration proposals for reconstituting it with a view to holding further meetings.

Mr. O'Higgins

Is the Minister aware that the only worthwhile advicesuch a council could now give to him would be to resign and go to the country?

Mr. Walsh

What is happening to the Deputy to-day, I wonder?
