Vol. 139 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Trawler Poachers.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state if any effective scheme has yet been devised for the detection of trawler poachers by co-operation between his Department and the Departments of Justice and Agriculture.

The Departments mentioned are already co-operating in this work. With the information available at the moment, the existing arrangements for the reporting and apprehension of such poachers are as effective as can be devised having regard to our resources.

Is the Minister satisfied that full use is made of the Air Corps for the purpose?

That question has been examined arising out of other suggestions, and the Army authorities are satisfied that the Air Corps would be of very little help in regard to this particular problem.
