Vol. 139 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answer. - Increases in Pensions.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare whether, in view of the increasing cost of living, he intends to introduce proposals for legislation increasing the old age, blind persons and widows' pensions.

As I stated in reply to a similar question on the 20th May last, the answer is "no."

Does the Minister not agree that 25/- would be the present-day needs of the old-age pensioner to correspond to the 10/- paid in 1939?

I do not know if that is exactly right, but I am not disputing it.
