Vol. 139 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cinema Tax.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the estimated cost of extending the remission of tax on admission to cinemas to towns of 500 to 1,000 persons.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will consider extending, if necessary by the introduction of proposals for legislation, the remission of tax on admission to cinemas to towns of 500 to 1,000 persons in view of the difficulties facing the proprietors of cinemas in such towns and the desirability of improving the amenities of small towns.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 9 and 10 together.

The cost to the revenue of the concession suggested by the Deputy would be about £35,000 in a full year.

I am not prepared to recommend the legislation necessary to give effect to the proposal.
