Vol. 139 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - West Cork Islands.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware of the serious plight of many people residing in the islands around the West Cork coasts; and, if so, if he will adopt some measures to improve their position.

I am not aware that the islanders off the West Cork coast are in a serious plight. The Land Commission, in the course of their normal activities, have migrated four of the islanders to the mainland and their surrendered lands will be used for rearrangement purposes. Further inquiries are being made as to the possibility and desirability of making more land available on the islands for land settlement purposes.
