Vol. 140 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Mayo Accommodation Road.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that a culvert on the accommodation road to 14 households in the townland of Derreendaffderrig, electoral division Tawnynagry, rural district Castlebar, County Mayo, collapsed a considerable time ago and that serious litigation has resulted from the withholding of rates in the area; and, if so, if he will take immediate steps to make sufficient money available to put this road into a passable condition.

I have no responsibility for the repair of the culvert in question.

An application has been received under minor employment schemes towards the cost of its reconstruction; but it is not eligible for a full-cost grant under this head as the work required could not be carried out in the winter period when minor employment schemes are sanctioned for execution.

As the Deputy has recently been informed, the proposal will receive careful consideration if it is applied for under the rural improvements scheme, which requires a contribution from the landholders concerned.
