Vol. 140 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Electrification.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the present position with regard to the installation of a rural electrification scheme for (1) the Milltown-Listry district and (2) the Beaufort-Kilgobnet area.

I am not in a position to add anything to my reply to a similar question by the Deputy on the 10th December last.

Will the Minister state if these two areas will be put in in the near future with other areas in Kerry?

I am informed by the board that they are now rather high upon the priority list.

Would the Minister state if it is intended to make selection in future on the basis of the percentage of acceptors or on the economics of the scheme?

There is a new formula now in operation which takes into account both the percentage of acceptors and the economic return.

Did that method not obtain all along?

No. Up to the present it was only the financial return that was taken into account.
