Vol. 140 No. 3

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - West Cork Schools.

asked the Minister for Education if he will indicate (a) the number of schools proposed to be erected in West Cork; (b) the number to be reconstructed and (c) the present position regarding these proposals.

I am advised that in the area of the West Cork Dáil constituency 11 new schools are required, but in two of these cases the matter is not urgent. There are five other schools which require to be reconstructed.

The position in these cases is as follows:—

NEW SCHOOLS

No. of cases

Grant sanctioned but actual building work not yet begun

1

Sites obtained and preliminary arrangements proceeding but grants not yet sanctioned

7

Sites not yet obtained (two of these cases are not regarded as urgent)

3

RECONSTRUCTION OF EXISTING SCHOOLS

Grants sanctioned but work not yet begun

1

Preliminary arrangements proceeding but grants not yet sanctioned
