Vol. 140 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - West Cork Housing Grants.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state (a) if the outstanding arreas of applications for housing grants have been cleared as regards applicants from West Cork; (b) how many applications for grants are still outstanding and (c) when it is hoped to pay these amounts.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to a similar question asked by him on the 15th November, 1951. As I then intimated, the registers relating to housing grants are kept in county order and do not readily disclose separate figures for a particular part of a county. The figures for the rural portion of the entire County Cork show that instalments of 407 grants allocated for new houses and 767 grants allocated for reconstruction remain unpaid, but applications for payment have been made to my Department in only a small proportion of these cases. The special compilation of the detailed information requested by the Deputy in respect of West Cork would impose an unjustifiable demand on the time of the staff.
