Vol. 140 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cow Park for Ballytore (Kildare).

asked the Minister for Lands if he will now state whether the Land Commission propose to provide a cow-park at Ballytore, County Kildare; and, if so, when.

The Land Commission are not in a position at present to indicate whether or when a cow-park will be provided at Ballytore. Some years ago the Land Commission provided a 32½ acre cow-park, two and a half miles from Ballytore and it is being used mainly for the grazing of store cattle.

The Minister did indicate in reply to a question on the subject about 15 months ago that schemes for two estates were in preparation that had not yet been lodged but that it might be possible to make provision for a cow-park on one estate. Is that still the position?

The position is, as I pointed out to the Deputy before in reply to a question, that one is three and a quarter miles distant from Ballytore. It is not thought possible that a cow-park could be had there in any event. With regard to the other two estates which have the same name, there are appeals on price pending forhearing and until these are completed the scheme will not to be prepared. I think I should mention to the Deputy, as I have indicated in my answer, that the reports of the inspectors are not favourable to the provision of a cow-park. That does not mean that the commissioners when they examine all the facts may not come to a decision in the way the Deputy would like. That is my information at present.

I hope that in this matter the Minister will be on my side.
