Vol. 140 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Limerick Corporation Scheme.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will reconsider his decision to modify the Limerick Corporation scheme for the improvement of the Dublin road and allow the scheme originally submitted by theLimerick City Council to proceed; further, if he will provide the necessary financial assistance for the carrying out of this work, which will provide much-needed employment.

I take it the Deputy refers to the scheme estimated to cost over £61,000 submitted by the Limerick Corporation for the improvement of approximately 1,500 yards of this road. Expenditure to this extent is not considered necessary, as an alternative scheme, estimated to cost less than £40,000, has been devised which will provide a road of adequate standard.

The maximum financial assistance which can be given from the Road Fund for the work for the present has already been notified to the local authority.
