The average of the number of persons on the live register at a date in the middle of each month in the year 1947 was 55,623. In the year 1948 the average was 61,203, and in the year 1949 it was 60,606. The corresponding figures were 53,415 for the year 1950, 50,453 for the year 1951, and 60,688 for the year 1952.
