Vol. 141 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Transport of School Children.

asked the Minister for Education if in view of the fact that the principal teacher and a number of pupils have been transferred from Ardara National School to Brackey National School, County Donegal owing to the dilapidated condition of the former school, he will take immediate steps to provide transport for the principal and pupils from their residences to Brackey.

It has been found necessary, pending the making of other arrangements, to have classes for the senior pupils of Ardara (4) National School conducted by the principal teacher of that school in a vacant room in Scoil an Bhreacaigh which is one and a quarter miles distant from Ardara National School.

It is regretted that there are no funds at my disposal out of which aid might be given towards the cost of transport for this teacher and pupils whilst at the same time full grants arebeing paid in respect of Ardara (4) National School.

Does the Minister consider it is fair to the principal or the pupils that they should suffer financial loss through the mis-, non-, or malfeasance of the Department?

It is not the Department surely.

Surely it is the duty of the Department to keep the school in a proper state of repair.
