Vol. 141 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Erection of County Cork Cottages.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the cause of the delay in erecting cottages in the rural areas of Charleville, Millstreet and Mitchelstown.

The delay in proceeding with the erection of cottages in theareas referred to by the Deputy has been due to the difficulty experienced by the county council in obtaining reasonable tenders despite repeated advertisements. Tenders for the erection of 15 cottages in the Millstreet area and six cottages in the Rathluirc area were approved on the 4th May, 1953. The tenders submitted for a balance of 76 cottages in the Mitchelstown, Millstreet and Rathluirc districts were high compared with the tenders approved and the council's further observations were requested.

The council's further proposals in regard to the remaining cottages were received in my Department on the 14th of this month and are being examined.
