Vol. 141 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Grass Seed.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he has received representations from the grass seed producers in County Monaghan to the effect that the price payable by merchants for grass seed is inadequate; and, if so, what steps he proposes to take to remedy the grievance complained of.

I have been informed by the Mongahan County Committee of Agriculture that the committee have arranged with the Machiners' Association for a marketing scheme for the rye-grass seed of this year's crop. The basis of the scheme is that the merchants will buy on a qualitative basis and that the growers will be in a position to check on the analyses.

This is a development which I welcome and one which would lead to production of better quality seed. I have not had any complaints that the prices offered are unsatisfactory.
