Vol. 141 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Aer Lingus Plane Accident.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he has satisfied himself beyond doubt that the absence of a radio operator on the Aer Lingus plane which crashed at Spernal, Warwickshire, England, on 1st January, 1953, was not a contributing factor to the crash which followed the engine failure.

I am fully satisfied that the absence of a radio operator as crew member was not a contributing factor to the accident. The court of inquiry into the accident found that the aircraft carried sufficient crew and that the crew were qualified and adequately experienced to make the flight.
