Vol. 141 No. 4

Supplementary Estimate—Leave to Introduce.

I move:—

That leave be given by the Dáil to introduce the following Supplementary Estimate for the service of the year ending on the 31st March, 1954, namely:—

Vote No. 50 (Industry and Commerce) (Pr. 1991).

Will the Minister say what the Estimate is for?

The purpose of the Estimate is consequential on two enactments, one to provide for additional grants to Bord na Móna in connection with the housing scheme in the Bill which was passed earlier this session, and, secondly, to provide for the establishment of the grass meal project in Mayo.

Will the Minister say if there is any point in discussing Supplementary Estimates for the Department of Industry and Commerce when we have not yet been able to get a discussion on the main Estimate itself?

There are two Supplementary Estimates for the Department of Industry and Commerce. The reason why it is necessary to get them passed this session is because the money will be required immediately for the particular purposes for which it is to be voted. It would cause a disruption in work and unemployment if the money was not made available until the main Estimate had been passed.

Question put and agreed to.
