Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Nally Estate (County Mayo).

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the total receipts in respect of grazing and conacre lettings on the Nally estate, Roundfort, County Mayo, from the date of its acquisition to the present day, and further, when this estate will be allotted.

The gross amounts collected or collectable up to the end of the current season for grazing, tillage and meadow lettings in respect of the estate purchased from Mr. Nally was £842, and in respect of the lands surrendered by him £1,612. The outgoings up to the end of the present financial year amount to £395 and £1,357 respectively.

The allotment of these lands cannot be undertaken pending the outcome of proceedings for the resumption of adjoining lands.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the estimated value of the lands surrendered by Mr. Nally, Roundfort, and if the estimated total annuities on allotments were taken into account in the loss on resale which the Minister referred to in his reply to a question on 29th July, 1953.

It was estimated that the surrendered lands, subject to the existing annuity, would, on resale, be security for additional advances to the amount of £2,181, being the amount of the occupation interest allowed to the migrant. I do not understand the point in the latter part of the question but, in any event, my reply to the question of 29th July last shows clearly how the loss on resale was calculated.

Surely a market value was placed on the land surrendered by the inspector who made the inspection and who recommended thetransfer? The Minister surely must have that figure?

The Deputy knows that the determination of the annuity is based on the existing annuity for the surrendered lands plus the annuity based on the occupation interest.

I am asking the Minister a totally different question and that is the estimated market value at the time the Land Commission took possession in the spring of 1951, a factor which must enter into the whole transfer business. There must be an estimated market value on land surrendered, or if there is not, it comes as news to me that the Land Commission are prepared to take up land from any migrant without an estimated market value.

It may be that it was not estimated in this particular case.
