Vol. 141 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wages on School Erection.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state if the contractor who erected the new national school at Meelin, County Cork, was bound by contract agreement to pay trade union rates of wages.

Under the terms of their contract for the erection of the school referred to, the contractors were required to pay rates of wages and observe hours of labour not less favourable than those commonly recognised by employers and trade societies (or in the absence of such recognised rates of wages and hours those which in practice prevail amongst good employers) in the trades in the district where the work was carried out.
