Vol. 141 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mallow Housing.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state if he is aware that there are 100 needy applicants for improved housing, living in the town of Mallow, who are unable to pay the rent demanded by the urban council; and, if so, if he will sanction the carrying out of another scheme of houses outside the urban area similar to those already erected at Goold's Hill.

I understand that a survey of present housing needs is being made in Mallow urban area. The manager has been asked to keep the Department informed as to the results of the survey. No proposals for a scheme of thenature referred to by the Deputy have been submitted to my Department.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the cause of delay in erecting non-municipal houses at Liscarroll, Mallow, County Cork.

I understand that the delay in proceeding with the housing scheme at Liscaroll has been due to investigations which were carried out with a view to locating a suitable source for a piped water supply to serve the scheme as originally planned and also to the carrying out of a resurvey of the housing needs of the district. The council now state that a small unserviced scheme for four houses will meet the needs of the district. I understand that the council's proposal for the revised smaller scheme will be submitted to my Department as soon as possible.
