Vol. 141 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Removal of Kildare Railway Bridge.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state when work will commence on the scheme for removing the railway bridge on the Dublin road at Naas, County Kildare.

The scheme in question was approved by my Department on the 28th May last. I understand that necessary preliminary work on a temporary by-pass road was commenced last week and that the council hope to commence the work of taking down the bridge and of levelling the approaches on the 17th instant.

Is the Minister aware that the present position is that we cannot proceed with the work until we get a further communication from the Minister? Only this morning the acting county manager informed me that he was awaiting word from the Minister's Department in regard to the closing order before the work could proceed further.

The closing order will be made immediately and will extend to the 17th November. I was not aware that the fact of its not being made had in any way affected the progress of the work.

That is what we are waiting for.

The by-pass road had to be first erected before the closing order could be made.
