Vol. 141 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Water Supplies.

asked the Minister for Local Government if there are plans in his Department relative to the provision of a water supply for the districts of Coole, Bawnard and Francistown, Fermoy, County Cork; and, if so, if he will state the cause of the delay in the carrying out of this important work.

asked the Minister for Local Government if there are proposals in his Department for the provision of a water supply for the Boulta, Ballynoe, Cork district; and, if so, if he will state the cause of the delay in carrying out this important work.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 51 and 57 together.

Owing to the very large number of water and sewerage schemes in North Cork submitted by the local authority for approval it has become necessary to ensure that a planned programme be prepared and that the proposed schemes be carried out in the order of urgency assigned to them by the county medical officer on grounds of public health.

While preliminary proposals have been submitted for water supply schemes to serve Coole, Grange, Ballyhamsherry and Boulta, these schemes do not appear to be included in the programme of urgent schemes prepared by the sanitary authority. Consideration of the proposals has been deferred until the reqirements of areas in more urgent need of supplies have been met.
