Vol. 141 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dearer Commodities.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the list of commodities which have increased in price since the 14th June, 1951, with his approval and the amount of the increase in each case.

Mr. Walsh

The prices to producers for wheat, creamery butter and liquid milk sold in the Dublin and Cork sale districts are determined by Order made by me. It is estimated that for wheat of the 1953 crop growers will receive on average from 79/- to 80/- a barrel as compared with 62/6 for the 1950 crop. As regards creamery butter, the position is complicated by the removal of the price subsidy in July, 1952, but it is estimated that creameries are now receiving about 73/- per cwt. more for butter than in June, 1951. In the case of liquid milk, prices to producers in the Dublin and Cork Milk Board areas in 1953/54 are about 2?. per gallon above those ruling in 1951.

I would like to give notice that I propose to raise on the Adjournment this evening, with your permission, the question of the delay in the payment of a pension to ex-Garda 12552. This man is now confined in Grangegorman Mental Hospital as a result of the delay on the part of the Department of Finance in paying a pension to him.

When the Deputy sets out exactly what he wants to raise I will have an opportunity of examining it.
