Vol. 141 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kilgobinet Branch Creamery.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is aware of the urgent necessity for erecting a branch creamery at Kilgobinet, Beaufort, County Kerry; and if so, if he is now in a position to make an announcement in the matter.

Mr. Walsh

I have nothing to add to the reply which I gave to the Deputy on this subject on 3rd June, 1953.

Is the Minister aware that an outstanding case has been made for the erection of a creamery in that district? Furthermore, the important factor is that the travelling creamery serving the district at the moment could be made available then for the congested areas of Cromane and Caragh, thereby covering the whole district. The erection of the creamery is very important and, on behalf of the people in the area and the farmers concerned, I would be glad if the Minister would again direct the chairman of the Dairy Disposals Board to proceed with the work.

Mr. Walsh

As I told the Deputy on another occasion an experiment was carried out in one of the districts there and, as at present informed, I understand it would be uneconomic to erect a cream-separating station there. When we know the results of the experiment we will be in a better position to give a decision.
