Vol. 142 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Damage to Valentia Roads.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that serious damage was caused to certain accommodation roads in Valentia Island during the recent floods; and, if so, if he will instruct the special employment scheme office to allocate the necessary grants for the carrying through of the repair of the roads referred to.

I have no responsibility for the repair of accommodation roads damaged by flooding in Valentia Island or elsewhere except in so far as such proposals form suitable subjects as employment schemes, or alternatively, are the subject of applications under the rural improvements scheme.

I have recently received one such application for the repair of an accommodation road in the island and I am arranging for an inspection of the proposal. If the Deputy furnishes me with particulars of any other cases he has in mind they will be similarly investigated and considered on their merits within the limits of the funds made available to me for such works.
