Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sugar Imports.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state the quantity and value of sugar imported from Cuba since 13th June, 1951; and, further, if he will indicate the other places from which sugar was imported in this period.

It is not possible to give the required information from the exact date specified, but it may be stated that imports of sugar from Cuba in the period 1st June, 1951, to 31st August, 1953, inclusive, comprised 132,355 tons of unrefined sugar valued at £5,730,917, and 14,405 tons of refined sugar valued at £568,383. The other countries of origin of sugar imported in that period were Great Britain, the Six Counties, Belgium, Spain and the Dominican Republic.
