Vol. 142 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Workmen's Compensation Premiums.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware of the general increase in premiums demanded by insurance companies, consequent on adjusted compensation for a limited number of employees under the Workmen's Compensation (Amendment) Act, 1953; and, if so, whether any representations have been made to the companies concerned to ensure that the impact on policy rates is on a par with increased benefits.

The reply to both parts of the Deputy's question is in theaffirmative. The representations to the companies regarding their proposed increases of premium rates were made by the Minister for Social Welfare.

Would the Minister indicate whether any reply has been received to the representations?

I understand that as a result of the representations the increases were less than the companies originally proposed.
