Vol. 142 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kerry Creamery Facilities.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is aware of the necessity for arranging for a portable creamery stop at Tullig, Killorglin, which will facilitate suppliers residing in the area of Tullig, Lonhart, Scrahan and Douglas; and, if so, if he will have a portable creamery stop established in that district.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is aware ofthe necessity for erecting a branch creamery at Kilgobinet, Beaufort, County Kerry; and, further, that the portable creamery now operating at Kilgobinet can be economically employed in the areas of Cromane, Caragh Lake and Glencoe; and, if so, what action he proposes to take in the matter.

Mr. Walsh

I propose, a Cheann Comhairle, with your permission, to take Questions Nos. 34 and 35 together.

As regards all the areas, other than Kilgobinet, Beaufort, to which the Deputy refers in the two questions, the position is, as the Deputy is aware, that the Dairy Disposal Company is at present operating a travelling creamery on a purely experimental basis in the Cromane-Caragh Lake area. Until all the information possible has been ascertained as a result of this experiment the company will not be in a position to decide what permanent arrangements, if any, should be made. As the experiment is still in progress I do not propose to intervene in this matter.

As regards the question of the erection of a permanent cream-separating station at Kilgobinet, a decision on this matter must await the result of the travelling creamery experiment mentioned.
