asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state the numbers on the the live register in the principal occupations in the building industry for the latest available date and on the corresponding dates in the years 1950, 1951 and 1952.

As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to have it circulated in the Official Report.

STATEMENT showing in respect of the dates mentioned the numbers of persons registered at Local Offices of the Department of Social Welfare who were classified in the building trade occupations shown (See Note below).

NOTE: (1) The figures contained in this statement may include persons normally employed in an industry other than the building trade e.g., a carpenter employed in the agricultural machinery industry.

(2) The occupational classifications maintained at Local Offices do not permit of a more detailed analysis e.g., plumbers, glaziers and gasfitters are grouped together.

(3) The figures may include a number who are not fully-qualified tradesmen.
