Vol. 142 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fisheogue River Drainage.

Mr. O'Higgins

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state what money has been allocated under the provisions of the Local Authorities Works Acts for the drainage of the River Fisheogue, County Laoighis, and the amount expended to date; and what steps will be taken to have this drainage completed in the near future.

A proposal of the Laoighis County Council to carry out a scheme costing £2,000 on this river with the aid of a grant was approved in 1952-53. It is understood that work commenced in that year, but owing to some local difficulties the cost of work executed did not exceed £135. The council have proposed the completion of this work in the present financial year and have been advised of approval thereto. The timing ofexecution of approved works is a matter for the local authority.
